"BLISSFULLY UNAWARE" Psalms 91: 5-16
Artist interpretation: As a child of God, we go through life blessed, for the Lord is our refuge. It's a beautiful morning, a young woman is walking down a wooded path, the sun is shining, birds are singing, flowers blooming, the air is filled with fragrance and butterflies. Each day is a gift from God! The young woman leisurely walks along, "blissfully unaware" of all that is going on around her. All she sees is the beauty, however, there is more present: "We fight not against flesh and blood, but against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world". -Ephesians 6:12. Some of these are found in this painting. In one of the trees is a monkey, which represents the lusts and temptations of this world. A red-headed woodpecker symbolic of the ever-present devil. Also, an arrow carrying slanders and evil plots, and written on the trees 1000 and 10,000. "You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day...A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. Only a spectator shall you be, as you witness the reward of the wicked." -Ps. 91:5, 7-8. Look at the young woman's feet, they are not touching the path, but are strangely just above the stones. In the stones we find camouflaged a lions head and serpent. As written in scripture, "Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place. There shall no evil befall you...For He will give His angels charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways. They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and serpent shall you trample underfoot."-Psalms 91:3-13 Unbeknown to the young woman and to us, every day we are surrounded by evil and temptations in the natural, and in the spirit world. But as a child of God, our God reigns! He sends His angels to help us. His Holy Spirit goes before us, and guides us down the right path that He has chosen for us, shown by the symbol of the dove. The sun represents the Son of God shining upon us, lighting our way. Looking upward we see two leaves with eyes, the eyes of God portrayed. He is above all, sees all, God has it all under control, we walk in His love...and we are blissfully unaware! In His Word, God promises every child of His that, "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation". -Psalms 91: 14-16

"HOME" Matthew 8:20
Artist interpretation: Nestled in their den, the foxes are home. Above the foxes we see two birds collecting twigs to build a home. In the rocks, are little birds tending to their home. Home: a place of love and security, a place of acceptance. This world is home for many wonderful plant and animal kingdoms. The Lord Jesus said His Kingdom was not of this world. In scripture He refers to having no place to lay His head...He never made this world His home. Jesus wasn't seeking the things of this world, a home, acceptance, blending in to society; He was about His Father's business. Christ came to earth fulfilling prophecy, (Isaiah 61:1), (Luke 4:18-19) to preach the good news, release the captives, proclaim salvation and (John 3:16) give eternal life. When a scribe said to Jesus that he would follow Him wherever He went, Jesus stated that He had no place to lay his head. The scribe needed to count the cost of following Jesus. Those who belong to the Kingdom of God cannot be too attached, or conformed, to the things of this world. They are to build treasures in Heaven. Jesus said, (Mattthew 6:21),"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also". In the tree we see a faint image referring to Jesus. This scant image implies that Jesus was in the world, but not of the world. The tree represents the cross He had to endure for our sin. But His image is one of victory, symbols of royalty: a purple robe, a golden crown...King of Kings! In the sky is the rainbow of promise, His promised return...and His Kingdom shall have no end (Luke 1:33).

"GLORY TO GLORY" II Corinthians 3:18
Artist interpretation: A visual statement...as the Lords Spirit makes us more and more like our glorious Lord- we go from glory to glory. Through Christ, represented by the cross, we no longer have fading glory, but now have hope and go from glory to glory. The repetition of this statement, suggests that it is never ending...over and over...His children go from glory to glory. The beautiful flowers tell this story of our growth in Him. We are seeds He has planted, growing, pushing upward, breaking ground...passing through this life, until on the other side we reach our full glory- blossomed, full bloom in His presence. In Him we go from glory to glory!

"PRAY" Lamentations 2:19
Artist interpretation: The most important action we can take for our lives, and for others, is to pray. In this painting the word "pray" is dominant, in our lives prayer should prevail as top priority. The Bible calls us to "pray without ceasing". Prayer is communication with God. This is what God has always desired from us...shutting out the world and spending time with Him. There's not anything in the world more valuable. He's waiting to fellowship with us...it's a matter of rearranging our priorities.
In this painting we see mainly colors of green and blue, symbolic of life and the heavens. Thus, life on this earth: praying to God in Heaven. As water pours out of a pitcher, so we should pour out our feelings to the Lord. God is our Father; he desires to spend time with us, to hear from us- whatever our feelings may be. Our prayers are like a sweet aroma to Him. Through prayer our relationship with God grows. In the painting we see the water...our prayers...being poured out watering a plant, causing it to grow. Just so, our prayer life causes spiritual growth...growth in our relationship with God.
Throughout the painting we see beautiful rose-colored blooms portraying the frankincense flower. In the Bible, frankincense was used in ceremonial offerings (Exodus 30:34, Leviticus 2:1), as an article of luxury (Solomen 3:6), and as a gift for the Christ child (Matthew 2:11). Frankincense was the most desired incense because of its free-burning ability, longevity, and steady flame. This should describe our prayer life: freely pouring out our feelings to the Lord, steady with longevity. We see behind the "Y" of pray a stand with frankincense burning. Symbolic of our prayers: the smoke is Heaven-bound, a sweet aroma rising to Him. Inside the word pray we see the fish symbol. This is to remind us of Jesus' calling to His followers to be "fishers of men". Let us not forget to pray for others to know Him. Come; let us pour out our feelings to the Lord!

"LOST SHEEP FOUND" Luke 15:4
Artist interpretation: In a beautiful, green, deep forest is a lost sheep. The sheep is totally unaware that it is lost from the rest of the flock and the shepherd. The shepherd--Christ, very aware that the sheep has gone astray, has left the flock to go after his lost one. With gentleness and forgiveness radiating from his face, the shepherd has his eye on him---the lost sheep is found!!

Bible reference: Isaiah 53:6, John 10:1-16, 1 Peter 2:25
