"PURE SWEET LOVE" John 16: 5-15
Artist Interpretation: The blood-stained cross, symbolic of Jesus' crucifixion, is held together by spikes...spikes were used to nail Jesus to the cross. The dove, as used in scripture, is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. It is written, when Jesus ascends to be with God the Father, THEN the Holy Spirit will come to us. Here, we see the dove---the Holy Spirit, waiting to fulfill Gods plan. As Jesus' ascension nears, like a time-line the dove edges closer to the center of the cross--to the center of Gods will. Symbolic of Jesus' ascension is the bare cross and the dove--the Holy Spirit, taking flight--up into the light, the fulfillment of Gods plan. The dark sky represents the dark time of Jesus' life on earth. As the dove ascends into the light, so Jesus ascended into Heaven. Jesus' sacrifice for us was truly one of pure-sweet-love!

"BEARING FRUIT" Luke 13: 6-9
Artist interpretation: In this painting there is a sequence of events going on simultaneously. As written in scripture, a farmer had a garden, in this garden there was one lone fig tree which bore no fruit. After three years of no fruit, the farmer tells his worker to cut down the fig tree. We see the worker- identified by his black hat, looking towards the ground. He doesn't want to cut the tree down he wants to take care of it, to give it a second chance...in his hands. He asks the farmer and he agrees, but if it doesn't bear fruit then it must be cut down.
We see the worker nurturing and fertilizing the tree, and as he takes care of it fruit begins to come forth. We see in the foreground, the worker is pleased to show the farmer a bountiful harvest. The tree is full, the baskets are overflowing and figs are covering the ground! Likewise in the Kingdom of God, when left to ourselves we are of little value. Christ has come to give us a second chance-if we will allow it. When we put our lives in His hands, what once was barren will become abundant...that He may be glorified!!

"HE SENDETH..." Psalms 104: 10-15
Artist interpretation: This painting is about God's goodness...to all creation. God sends the rains to water everything. He fills streams to overflowing, allowing wild animals fresh drink. His rains produce lush green meadows for cattle to graze. He waters the plants-wheat, and trees of fruit-pomegranate, for man to eat from. Knowing Gods goodness will provide, brings peace. A man relaxes on the riverside enjoying the goodness of God all around him. He is blessed with wine that gladdens his heart, oil to make his face shine and bread to sustain his heart. Among the trees wild grapes grow, and among their branches birds serenade him-truly God is good!

Bible reference: Psalms 23, Psalms 107, Psalms 111, Psalms 112, Matthew 6:25-24, 1Corinthians 2:9

"PAYING THE TEMPLE TAX" Matthew 17: 24-27
Artist Interpretation: As stated in scripture, Jesus and Peter were in Capernaum. Peter was questioned about Jesus paying taxes. Later, Jesus instructed Peter to go to the lake--the Sea of Galilee, cast in a line and the first fish he'd hook would have a coin to pay their taxes. This painting depicts the muscular fisherman Peter, on the rocky shore of the Sea of Galilee. He has pulled in the first fish he hooked, a huge, richly colored fish--a fish that only a man with his ability and experience could handle. As he opens its mouth he sees a coin, the coin Jesus assured him would be there. It's a blustery day, the wind whips Peters hair, his fishing line thrown to and fro whips back across the pole--forming the shape of a cross, symbolic of Christ's presence.

Bible reference: Exodus 30:13, Psalms 34:14, Matthew 5:9, Mark 9:50, John 2:11

"THE MUSTARD SEED" Luke 13: 18-19
Artist interpretation: As written in scripture, the tiny mustard seed has produced a tree, where the birds of the air can come and take rest. We are able to see the small beginning of this tree--below in the fertile ground is the tiny mustard seed. All the birds taking rest are birds of the Bible. Sacrificial birds are the sparrow, swallow, pigeon, and the two turtledoves which Mary sacrificed to God after giving birth to Jesus. The white dove is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. Quail, representing the quail God sent to the Israelites as they wandered in the wilderness with Moses--headed to the promised land, and the raven, symbolic of the raven God sent to feed Elijah as he sat under the Juniper tree. Notice the birds among the bottom branches represent Old Testament, the birds among the upper branches New Testament. This placement refers to the fact: the Old Testament came first, birthing the New Testament. The Old Testament foretells of Christ, New Testament fulfills this--Christ is born resulting in a new covenant. The mustard tree is in bloom, its branches intertwined form a cross, with the white dove--the Holy Spirit, at its center. This tree is watered by "living water"!

Bible reference: Isaiah 52:13-15, Isaiah 53, 1Kings 17:2-6, Numbers 11:31-32, Matthew 3:16, Luke 2:24
